At one of your character's place of employment, a random beeping occurs every 20-30 minutes. It beeps steadily for 15-20 minutes. And any time anyone asks if it can be stopped, the administrative assistant says, "We've asked. they say there's no way to fix it. We just have to wait until it stops."
